Wireless Applications

Asset Tracking
Asset Tracking involves managing availability and service ability of assets used to move, store, secure, protect and control inventory within the enterprise and along the supply chain. Tracking production assets is the foundation of a manufacturing business.

Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
The EMR is the legal record created in hospitals and ambulatory environments that is the source of data for the electronic health record.  An application environment composed of the clinical data repository, clinical decision support, controlled medical vocabulary, order entry, computerized provider order entry, pharmacy, and clinical documentation applications. This environment supports the patient s electronic medical record across inpatient and outpatient environments, and is used by healthcare practitioners to document, monitor, and manage health care delivery within a care delivery organization (CDO).

Inventory Management
A key part of the supply chain, Inventory Management, controls the movement and storage of raw materials and finished products through the production line and stock locations over an internet connection.

Supply Chain Automation
Supply chain automation requires a suite of technologies that work seamlessly together to gather data even in the most severe industrial settings. Wireless devices and mobile business solutions have the power to make significant changes in supply chain management. Which set of technology depends on the specific needs of a company’s operations, the environmental conditions, and complexity of its supply chain.

Nurse Call
Integration of nurse call systems with wireless telephones or pagers is one of the most prevalent initiatives for hospitals and nursing directors because it improves staff productivity, reduces response times to patient requests, and helps increase overall patient satisfaction. By automating notification to wireless devices, nursing staff receive notification that a patient is in need in less than a few seconds. In addition with modern nursecall systems, nursing staff are able to press a single button on their wireless phone and speak directly to the patient, increasing both patient satisfaction and staff efficiency at the same time.

On-Demand Video (IP TV)
Several industries like hospitality and healthcare are looking at new and innovative ways to deliver content to handheld devices as well as fixed locations like televisions and laptops.  On-Demand video will be a driving factor in the years to come for enabling wireless technology.  By preparing for these services today enterprises will be ready to deliver these services.

Paging
Paging is a one-way telecommunication service providing the means to send an alert signal or a short message to a pager.

RFID
Short for radio frequency identification, RFID is a technology similar in theory to bar code identification. With RFID, the electromagnetic or electrostatic coupling in the RF portion of the electromagnetic spectrum is used to transmit signals. An RFID system consists of an antenna and a transceiver, which read the radio frequency and transfer the information to a processing device, and a transponder, or tag, which is an integrated circuit containing the RF circuitry and information to be transmitted.

Video Surveillance
Video Surveillance is an appliance that enables embedded image capture capabilities that allows video images or extracted information to be compressed, stored or transmitted over communication networks or digital data link. Digital video surveillance systems are used for any type of monitoring.

VoIP
Voice over Internet Protocol is the transmission of voice traffic over IP-based networks. VoIP services convert your voice into a digital signal that travels over the Internet. If you are calling a regular phone number, the signal is converted to a regular telephone signal before it reaches the destination. VoIP can allow you to make a call directly from a computer, a special VoIP phone, or a traditional phone connected to a special adapter. In addition, wireless "hot spots" in locations such as airports, parks, and cafes allow you to connect to the Internet and may enable you to use VoIP service wirelessly.

VoWLAN
Voice over WLAN is a method of sending voice information in digital form over a wireless broadband network.  The VoWLAN system allows all regular functions and messaging applications available on wired phones to be available on the VoWLAN devices. VoWLAN also contributes to cost efficiency. Because calls can be routed over the data network internally or over the Internet externally, mobile telephony costs can be eliminated or decreased significantly.

Wireless Point of Sales (POS)
Wireless POS is the use of wireless devices to facilitate order-taking or payment for products or services. Typically, a wireless POS system consists of a base station directly connected to a central server computer and one or more handheld computers or other devices that communication wirelessly. The Wireless POS can streamline many processes and may include the ability to record and track customer orders, finalize sales, connect to other systems in a network and manage inventory.

Work Order Management
By extending wireless for ubiquitous wireless connectivity enterprises are able to send work orders to employees while they are mobile or in different facilities.  The applications for this are boundless, doctors for example can fulfill subscriptions or order tests while mobile, facilities personnel can access building management systems to open and close work orders, and logistics and sales personnel can make CRM and ERP inputs anywhere and anytime.  Improving work order management, by extending wireless networks can have incredibly positive influences on an organizations bottom line and competitiveness.
